Nokia has had decent success with their Lumia series. The Windows Phone 8 powered smart phones have helped the former leading cell phone maker step out of the shadows. Nokia is going to launch a new major phone in the series, the Lumia 930. It will have a 5” display and it is targeted for the high-end segment.

The Lumia 930 runs on a 2.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU, supported by 2GB RAM. It is a relatively fast smart phone, whether for browsing or for multimedia or gaming. Powered by Windows Phone 8.1, the most striking feature of the 930 may be its 20 megapixel PureView primary camera. It is a large phone, measuring 137 x 71 mm and 9.8 mm in thickness.

The Lumia 930’s 5” AMOLED display supports a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels at 441ppi, one of the highest pixel densities in the market. The touch screen and phone functions are silky smooth, especially because of the powerful 2.2 GHz quad-core processor. The phone memory isn't expandable but has 32GB internal storage. According to Nokia, the 930 is packed with the power of the Lumia 1520.

It could be charged wirelessly and the phone comes with its wireless charging pad. Besides having many of the Nokia features, the Lumia 930 is also claimed to have many updates from Microsoft, as Nokia is now a Microsoft brand. Nokia hasn’t yet fully tested the Lumia 930 for its major apps.

For example, the Storyteller app, which has been updated with a new version, is yet to be installed and tested. Even Cortana hasn’t yet been on the phone. The personal digital assistant is going to be launched in the US, and could arrive on the other side of the Atlantic later.

Many of the other features of the new Windows Phone 8.1 have however have been quite appealing. This includes the fresh Action Centre and the shortcuts section that has some of the unique features of Android for Windows Phone. The swipe down feature for notifications is also worth checking.

Nokia has already taken the Android leap, a mobile OS platform that has had been alien to the phone maker for a long time. With the latest developments and phone releases, Nokia may be on the way to have a big makeover in its fortunes in near future.
